How to Make an Absolutely Stunning Crystal Suncatcher for Your Home

A suncatcher is a decorative object that is designed to reflect sunlight to create interesting patterns of light and rainbows in a room (or a patio). They are often created with shiny materials, like crystals and even shiny metals can create a beautiful array of light.
Some people even swear by using suncatchers to create positive energy in their space!
In this blog post I’m going to share with you how to make a gorgeous tree themed suncatcher that is sure to add an elegant (and rainbow) splash of light to your home decor!
Let’s start with your materials list.
What You Will Need:
- A metal hoop (I am using an 8inch silver hoop from Amazon)
- Jewelry wire
- A selection of crystal beads
- A hanging chain
- A hook (you can use a 3m product or even a nail depending on where you intend to hang it)
Start With Your Hoop
The best way to start is to create your crystal hoop. I find the easiest way is to sketch out a simple design that you want in the hoop.
I wanted a neat little tree-like design, so if to create that I looped my silver wire around the center of the hoop about 4-5 times (the more loops you do, the more “branches” you’ll create). Then I took the tail of my wire and looped it around all the loops to create the “trunk” of the tree. You can loop it near the center or lower down if you want longer branches.
Decorate With Crystals
Add a pop of color to your beautiful suncatcher to capture the rainbow effect when the light strikes it. I had some random crystal and metallic leaf beads that I wanted to use up, so I placed them onto the “tree” randomly.
The trick is using the same wire for the tree and just twisting the wire to create “ropes” above the beads. Then you just loop the wire onto the ring or the tree.
Hang From a Chain
I had a lovely paperclip style chain to use up, so I attached that to the top of the ring and then I just had to find a nice hook to hang the suncatcher up.
Depending on where you want the suncatcher to hang, you can find a variety of hooks, like 3M products or even just a simple and sturdy nail sometimes is all you need.
Final Thoughts
Once you have your suncatcher all made up and ready to go, you’re going to want to figure out where to place it. I like to hang mine in a window or you can even place it outside on your patio or in your garden to create a dance of light whenever a breeze wafts through!
