How to Make a Perfect Christmas Centerpiece for Your Table

Nothing quite screams “Christmas” like a beautifully decorated table for the season. In this blog post, I’ll share with you how to create a unique Christmas centerpiece for your table this year.

Making your own Christmas decor can be a creative project that will allow you to put together something that suits your home’s unique style and charm. Everyone has different tastes and decorating for a holiday like Christmas is no exception. What to Buy:

Here are all the items that I bought specifically for the piece I am making:

• A gold charger plate.
• Battery-operated candles.
• Plain unlit garland.
• Battery-operated lit garland.
• Shatterproof Ornament Balls.
• Hot glue & glue sticks.

I bought all of my items at Walmart, but you can often find similar quality items in a well-stocked dollar store or on Amazon.

Other items to consider buying, depending on the look you’re going for:

• Christmas picks in various colors and styles.
• Other accents like berries, cinnamon sticks or even dried orange slices.
• Floral foam if you wish to use live branches in your centerpiece as it can help keep things fresher for longer.
• Some other base or container that strikes your fancy.

Now on with the main event, putting everything together!

Preparing Your Plate/Container

I like to run a slightly moist cloth over any dish or container you plan on using in decor, just to remove the dust that accumulates on it when it’s sitting on the store shelf. If you’ve ever worked retail, you know how dusty a store is despite everyone’s efforts to keep it clean!

If you are planning on using floral foam, now would also be a good time to soak that in water so it’s completely saturated and ready to keep your fresh evergreen pieces watered!

Adding your Evergreens

Since I am not using fresh pieces, but fake, I naturally ‌skipped the foam option. 

I used hot glue to secure the unlit garland around the lip of my charger plate. Depending on how secure you want it, you need only a few drops of glue every few inches to keep it on the plate. I found this added some fullness to the greenery as my pre-lit garland was a little sparse in that department.

I then went over the same path with my lit battery-operated garland.

If you are using live branches, simply trim them and stick them into the floral foam in an arrangement that pleases you.

Adding the Candles & Ornament Balls

Once the plate is suitably “garlanded”, I arranged the candles in the center of the tray, because the battery case is on the bottom of them, I did not glue the candles down so I could replace the batteries when they eventually died out.

However, this allowed me to see where I wanted to place the shatterproof ornament balls.

Then all I needed was a dollop of glue on each ball to secure down onto the plate.

Final Thoughts

Making a Christmas centerpiece is a great way to create something unique and special for your table for the holidays. You don’t need a lot of materials to get going and shopping around you can definitely find deals to suit your budget and needs as well.

If you aren’t in the mood for the gold theme I created here, you can simply switch out items to create a different look. Picking a wooden container instead of a gold charger plate can instantly add a rustic touch to your Christmas centerpiece or if you hate evergreen branches, choose berry sprigs instead!
