Sometimes simple is better. The perfect treat for Halloween night has to be a deliciously layered Witches’ Brew Halloween Trifle.

A trifle is a traditional English dessert that comprises cake, cream (or custard), syrup and fruit, all layered. There aren’t a lot of “rules” either for the dish which is part of the reason I love making them. The only thing to remember with trifles is they are best eaten within 24 hours of assembling, if only to avoid things getting super soggy.

To make a good trifle, you only need 5 ingredients to get going!

So are you ready to get into the spooky spirit and craft a trifle? Let’s get going!

Make a Cake

The first step in this delicious Halloween Trifle is to bake a cake. You can insert your favorite cake recipe ever into this process or grab a cake mix from the store. I chose a brownie recipe, but if you are looking for a lighter idea, definitely go for a cake recipe as brownies are a denser final product.

Pie Filling

If you aren’t a fan of cherry pies, you can pick another pie filling that will go together nicely with your cake. I mainly went with cherry pie filling because of its perfectly red color!

Coloring Your Whipped Cream

I recommend picking two colors for your trifle and for this one, I went with two traditionally “Halloween” colors, purple and green!

The key to any good trifle are the layers.

Other options for Halloween could include orange and even red. Pick your favorites and don’t think about it too much.

Layer that Trifle

Start your trifle with a layer of brownie and then cherry pie filling.

You’ll want to serve this trifle in a bowl that shows off all your pretty layers, so a plain glass serving bowl is perfect for this!

Begin layering with the cake, then the pie filling and then one color of the whipped cream. Follow that with another layer of cake, pie filling and then the opposite color of whipped cream until your bowl is full. Sprinkle the top with your Halloween themed sprinkles to finish things off.

Once you have your bowl full of trifle layers, you can finish up with a dusting of spooky sprinkles!

For sprinkles, it’s your choice, but I love this style available on Amazon.

Your trifle will keep nicely in the fridge for around 24 hours.
