Making Christmas tree spinach dip breadsticks for a quick appetizer or just a delicious holiday-themed snack this year is the perfect way to bring your friends and family together.

Once your dough is nice and golden brown, you are ready to serve this treat your guests!

So gather up your pizza dough (you can absolutely save time and grab some pre-made dough from your local grocer) and your favorite spinach dip and let’s get to work!

Cut A “Dough Tree”

Start by rolling out the pizza dough onto some parchment paper.

The trick to the clever Christmas tree shape is to cut your pizza dough into a tree-shaped triangle. I recommend using a pizza cutter for this part as you’ll get some nice clean lines (I personally love a wheel shaped one like this one available through Amazon), but any sharp knife will work decently.

To make a Christmas tree shape, cut the dough into a triangle like this.

With the two pieces you cut away from the dough, you can reshape those into an identical shaped triangle to use as the base for the rest of your recipe.

It’s okay if the dough pulls a little, you can simply reshape it as needed!

Make Your Spinach Dip & Spread It

The cream cheese and spinach combine with the spices to create a delicious dip.

Next you’ll want to mix together all the ingredients for your spinach dip. I have cheated before with this recipe using a store-bought spinach dip, but I still add in a ½ cup of each parmesan and mozzarella cheese to the dip because I’m a huge fan of cheese!

Spread a thin layer of spinach dip on one triangle of pizza dough to start off your tree shape.

Once your dip is prepared, you’ll want to spread a generous layer over top the triangle you created in step one. You want to aim for about ½ inch to 1 inch thickness, anything thicker may start to spill out of your tree.

Once the spinach dip is spread out on one triangle, sprinkle on some mozzarella cheese (or cheddar if you'd rather)!

Twist your Dough & Bake It

You should now have a triangle with the spinach dip sandwiched between the two layers of pizza dough. Grab your trusty pizza cutter again and cut the “branches” for your tree, creating branches of roughly 1 inch wide and leaving about one inch in the center for the “trunk” of the tree.

Once the spinach dip and cheese are spread onto your "tree", create branches by cutting and twisting the dough.

Once you have your branches, you simply need to twist them around a few times. The upper branches may only have one twist in them, but the lower ones can be twisted around a few times.

Once everything is twisted, pop your tree in the oven for about 22 minutes at 400F until the top is a nice golden brown and the bottom has baked through (grab a flipper to gently lift it up to check).

Once it’s baked, it will keep in the fridge for a few days, simply reheat in the oven for a few minutes to warm everything up again. Brush some garlic butter over the top when ready to serve.

Prep Time 30 minutes
Servings 15 people

Ingredients

  • 12 oz frozen spinach
  • 6 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 cup cheddar or mozzarella cheese grated
  • 1 tube refrigerated pizza dough at least 12 oz
  • 2 tbsps butter melted
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400F.
  • In a bowl, beat together the spinach and the cream cheese until well combined.
  • Add the garlic, salt, onion and chili powders, pepper and Italian seasoning to cream cheese mixture and combine.
  • Add parmesan cheese and 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese to mixture and combine (you'll use the rest later).
  • Carefully roll out the pizza dough onto parchment paper. Use a pizza cutter to cut the edges off, leaving a triangular shape. Take the two cut pieces and lay them on a second sheet of parchment paper with their straight edges together to create a second triangle about the same size as the first.
  • Spread the spinach & cheese mixture over the second triangle you created, creating a layer an inch or so thick. Place the first triangle over top the first, so that the spinach & cheese mixture is sandwiched between the two pieces of dough.
  • Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut the "branches" of your tree, leaving about an inch from the center and making each branch about one inch wide.
  • Grab each "branch" and gently twist upward. The shorter branches may only twist halfway or so, but the longer ones should be able to twist two or three times.
  • Bake your tree for 22 minutes until golden brown on top and cooked through on the bottom.
  • Melt butter and add garlic salt and Italian seasoning to brush over your breadsicks and serve warm.

Final Thoughts

I love how easy this recipe comes together, it’s perfect for when you need something delicious to toss together for guests. If you love spinach dip, this is a great way to enjoy it and I reckon you could switch it up with your favorite dip recipe if you aren’t a fan of the spinach!
